How to increase each click' value?

Are you getting traffic and clicks but not making much money with your AdSense site? Here's one explanation:

Let's say your friend has a site about dealing with insurance companies during the claims process. He's worked hard on the site over the past year and is making several thousand dollars per month; his average click is worth about $0.75. You have some ideas for a site of your own in the same niche (you don't tell him of course). You buy a domain and get busy creating content which you think is even BETTER than your friends. Your site is about the same size as your
friends and you feel the content is much better. However, your site is only making $0.19 per click!

HOW FRUSTRATING!
Google has a filter they run every AdSense site through they call "Smart Pricing". Smart pricing is designed to give the Advertisers (the ones paying Google each time there is a click) the most value for their advertising money. Anyone can throw up a site about insurance and place AdSense on it. If the site is awful, and you were an advertiser, would you want your ads to show up on the site? Of course not! This is where Smart Pricing comes in. Plain and simple, Google uses their Smart Pricing filter to put the BEST (higher paying) ads on the BEST sites. Google has to keep its advertisers HAPPY! Smart Pricing may use the following criteria (and others) to decide how valuable the ads will be which they place on your site.

- How old is your site? Older sites have more relevance in Google's eyes...all things being equal.
- What is your site's page rank? The higher the better.
- How much traffic does your site get? More traffic usually indicates a better site.
- How long do people stay on your site? (Yes, Google knows this if someone visits your site via a Google search.) Google feels that the longer someone is on your site, the better it must be.
- How good is your CTR (click thru rate) compared to other sites of the same niche? (The higher the better of course!)
- No doubt, there are other criteria being used also. (Google is very secretive in these things).

There are no tricks available for dealing with Smart Pricing. Basically, if humans feel your site has value, Google will know it and reward your site with higher paying ads! Therefore, it is possible that 1 or 2 high quality sites could earn you as much as 10 quickly whipped together ones. Think about it and decide which direction you will go. Remember that quality sites also offer other opportunities. For example, the same high quality site earning a Google check
each month can also be used to build a targeted list and for selling affiliate products.

Adsense Alternative : Adbrite

Google’s big thing is serving contextual ads. Their program checks the content of your site and delivers ads that they think your users will like.
AdBrite is much simpler. The idea behind AdBrite is that people tend to ask popular sites to advertise their links. You’ve probably had that happen to you. Instead of asking for a link in return though, you could ask for money. AdBrite is a clearing house for sites that want to sell advertising space on their pages and for advertisers who want to choose where they want to place their ads. For advertisers, the advantage over Google is that they know exactly where their ads are appearing and for exactly how much money each time. Publishers — like you — get to set your own ad rates, and you have the right to approve or reject every ad before it’s placed on your site.
That gives you the power to choose your ads and your price instead of relying on whatever Google gives you. Those are the advantages. The disadvantages are that it’s just not in the same league as AdSense... or YPN.

Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN)

Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN) is probably the number one competitor to Google. In fact they pretty much copied what AdSense had done... but didn’t do it quite as well. On the plus-side, their ad formats are largely the same. So if you need to switch from AdSense to YPN, you should be able to keep the exact same optimization, at least as regards how the ads look (although YPN doesn’t have Ad Links or Search, so you’d lose those.)

They also have ads in RSS which could bring in some extra revenues if you’re using that on your site. As to which ads you get served though, that’s a whole other ball game. One of the biggest problems with YPN is that the first ads they serve are often Run-Of-The-Network (RON) ads, Yahoo!’s answer to public service ads. These are just ads for companies that seem to have struck a special deal with YPN. They pay well, when you get a click out of them, but they’re not contextualized so you don’t get many clicks. They occur much more frequently than public service ads and they’re much harder to get rid of. And there are no CPM ads on Yahoo!, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the size of your site and your experience.
Most publishers find that they get better results with AdSense than they do with YPN... although we all keep a close eye on YPN to see if they improve enough to attract us.

Adsense Tips for Bloggers

How do you make money from the Google Adsense Program? What AdSense Tips can you share with us?

I have been asked this question so many times in the past few weeks that I thought I should write something on the topic. It seems increasingly bloggers want to try to cover their hosting and ISP costs with some revenue from their blog - and increasingly they’re doing it and are able to make a few (or quite a lot) dollars on the side. Many are turning to Google’s Adsense program.Covering costs of my Digital Photography Blog is why I originally signed up with Google Adsense - blogging can get expensive when you have high levels of traffic and a lot of pages.Whilst the agreement you sign with Google stresses that you are not allowed to give specific information about your earnings from the program I can say that I’m glad I’ve signed up because its well and truly covered my costs - and then some. In fact I think its quite feasible to expect that Adsense coupled with other strategies for making money from Blogging could quite easily generate a decent living. It takes time and hard work, but I think its very doable. (Update: Since writing this series I’ve revealed that I am now looking at making over a six figure income this year in 2005 from blogging). So how do I make money from Google Adsense? Let me share some AdSense Tips that heve helped me.This will be the first in a series of posts on this topic.

Let me say up front I’m no expert - there are a lot of people out there making a lot more money than I am using Adsense - however most of them are not telling their secrets - well not for free anyway. I’ve got no secrets to hide and am willing to share what I’ve learnt since I signed up for the program 8 months ago. If you want a REAL expert’s opinion on Adsense I’d recommend buying Joel Comm’s What Google Never Told You About Making Money with Adsense E-Book. Joel earns $15,000 per month from Adsense and has some good things to share.I know some bloggers are put off or offended by the idea of making money from blogging so I’ll try not to let these posts dominate my blog - however if you are not interested in the topic, simply skip over these posts.I am going to assume a few things in this series to cut down the amount of introductory comments I have to make.

Here is what I am assuming:You have a blog. Whilst most of the following tips will apply to other types of websites I run Adsense on blogs and will speak from that experience. You have (or will) read a basic overview of Adsense and have some understanding of what it is. You have(or will) read the program policies as outlined by Google. These give details of site eligibility, ad placements and other requirements for using the system. Enough introductory comments - lets get stuck into the Adsense Tips for Bloggers!

Why Adsense is Not Suitable for All Blog Topics?

One of the most striking things that hit me in my analysis of the 30 most visited blogs at Truth Laid Bear was the small number of blogs using the Adsense program. Only 8 of the 30 (26%) had any Adsense ads on their pages - most instead opting for BlogAds as their income stream of choice. A number of you have also emailed me or commented on this after my previous post (remember these 30 blogs are not THE most visited blogs - just the most visited ones with sitemeter stats tracking them).

As someone who uses Adsense extensively in my blogging this was initially a somewhat shocking finding. My
Digital Camera blog is down at the bottom of the list at number 30 with 12518 daily visitors - I use Adsense extensively there and make over $200 per day from doing so on that blog alone (it is my highest earning blog to date). It would be easy to assume that a blog like Daily Kos with 35 times the daily traffic should earning 35 times the money if they used Adsense ($7500 per day).

This would be a false assumption. Why? Its simply about Topic.
The majority of the blogs in the list have a political or news/commentary theme - I’d classify 22 of the top 30 this way. Of the 8 remaining 3 are tech related, 4 are gossip/celebrity focussed and 1 is a metablog covering all of those themes (ie tech, politics, culture etc). This last blog is
BlogCritics who I’ve spoken with the owners of and asked why they don’t use Adsense - the reason is that they have many contributer - some of whom use strong language in their posting and comments which doesn’t fit with Google’s guidelines.

Political Blogs - Whilst they generate some massive traffic, Adsense is never going to be the income stream of choice for these bloggers for a number of reasons:
• They have no control over which ads do and don’t appear - You can just imagine the variety of ads that could be served to a piece written on George Bush. I don’t know too many political bloggers who would be happy to have an ad that they are opposed to running on their blog. Adsense has no way of telling if your blog is pro or against him - so it will randomly serve ads (if there are any). For instance if you check out
Washington Monthly you’ll see an example of a political blog running adsense in their right hand sidebar and notice the variety of ads that are shown there from page to page.• Low earnings per click - Political ads just don’t pay much. Whilst during the election there might have been a bit more competition between advertisers as there was more at stake, in general ads about politics (which there is no real product to sell) don’t tend to generate high bids from advertisers.

With these factors in mind - a better business model for such sites would obviously be a system that gives the blogger a choice about which ads appear on their blog and that are tied more to impression level or relevant ads than to ‘click value’. As a result BlogAds tend to do well on them.
Gossip/Celebrity Blogs - Again blogs of this nature have the distinct advantage of generating a lot of impressions due to the inquisitive nature of human beings who want to know others business and who have a fascination with celebrity. However they have the distinct disadvantage of not being big earners with Adsense. Once again this comes down to a lack of earnings per click. I run a number of celebrity blogs which at times generate very high traffic - but their CPM (earnings per thousand impressions) is generally the lowest among my blogs. This again is largely due to the fact that there is no high value product associate with celebrities. Sure there are a few books, DVDs, concert tickets and movies - but advertisers are not willing to shell out big dollars to get you to buy these lower ticket value items.

It is possible to make some reasonable money from celebrity blogs - but the rate of return per visitor will always be lower than other topics of blog - to make it big with Adsense on a gossip blog would require a lot of traffic and the fact is that they can probably earn more with other types of ads (impression based ones or site sponsorship deals would be more suitable).

Tech Blogs - whilst there are not as many of these in the ‘top 30′ list they are perhaps the best suited ones to using Adsense. This is largely due to the fact that they specifically focus upon items that can be purchased - some of which can be of a high retail value. In terms of ‘click value’ - these sorts of blogs do generate a higher return than political and gossip topics - but they are not the highest earning topics out there. In fact my Digital Camera Blog may be my biggest earner (total earnings) but in terms of click value its in the middle of the pack and perhaps even trailing the field a little. It is still well worth doing though as the combination of a slightly higher click value and some reasonable traffic pay off nicely.

I am a little surprised that the other tech blogs in the list don’t use Adsense as prominently as they could. I would have thought that with their higher traffic levels and profile that it would have been worthwhile to do so. Having said this it is probably due to them having better alternatives for their ad space.

Take Home Advice - So the take home advice is that not all blogs are suitable for Adsense. Other topics that will always be an uphill battle include:
• Religion - similar problems with politics - ie low click value and difficulty in serving ads that relate tightly with your perspective• Adult Content - Google simply doesn’t allow ads to be served on pages with explicit content (same story with gambling I’ve heard)• Sport - Similar problem to the celebrity blog - with no real high ticket value product attached to these keywords you need a lot of traffic to make much from these blogs from Adsense.

I’m sure there are others. Feel free to leave a
comment below and let the rest of us know what you think. What topics have you found don’t work too well on Adsense? Which ones do?

Search Engine Marketing

A recent study sponsored by Yahoo and Media Vest and conducted by COM Score concluded that on average brand awareness increased by 160% thanks to paid search ads compared to the awareness level of brands not involved with paid search. The study further found that brands garnering the top search position were seen as better than brands in the second or third position. Purchasing intent increased by 30% when the brand was listed at the top of search query results. At Orbital Marketing we work with you to come up with a clear, concise and cost effective way to bring target traffic to your site with paid search marketing. With services like CPC (Cost Per Click) and PPC (Pay Per Click) campaigns you will notice immediate measurable results.

  • Small initial investment. The search engines do not charge a fee to place or run your ad. You only pay for the users that click thru on the ad.

  • Realistic for all businesses, regardless of size. Pay-per-Click campaigns create a level playing field for small businesses, particularly if your campaign research results in the right keywords. With the right campaign
management, your ad placement might be right above or below a larger competitor or national chain. This effectively puts you in a good competitive position without having to substantially out bid the larger advertiser.

  • Immediate results. The research, set up and implementation cycle of pay-per-click campaigns can take place in just a few days, as opposed to natural search engine rankings which require weeks or months to gain desired
rankings. Pay-per-click campaign results are immediate: the day your ad is placed the clicks to your website begin!

  • Real-time tracking. Metrics such as effectiveness of keywords and phrases, per ad traffic generated, per ad conversions, and more are used to provide campaign managers with the data to alter campaigns in real-time. This allows you to respond very quickly to strong or poor performing ads. Unlike a printed piece or mailer, the lag time to judging ad effectiveness is hours not days, and modifying an ad can be accomplished in minutes.

  • Targeted traffic. Print and traditional media generally reach a mass audience; it is difficult to target your message. Pay-per-click campaigns utilizing geo-targeting, effective keyword research and demographic site selection allow you to target your viewing audience much more precisely. Thus pre-qualifying your customers to a far greater degree before they ever land on your website.

  • Branding. Top placement on Google, Yahoo or MSN has proven to be a very effective branding method.

What is Zanox Publishers System?

zanox, a global leader in performance-based online marketing, today announced the company has released a comprehensive and detailed code of conduct (http://www.zanox.com/us/zanox/about/zanox_code_of_conduct.html) for its global affiliate network as an industry measure toward establishing a rigorous benchmark for the affiliate marketing sector worldwide.

Choose the Best Colors for Your Adsense Block

Most AdSense publishers have read that making the border color and the background color of your AdSense ad blocks match the web page on which the ads appear will improve your CTR. This is generally true (but not always, as the “Facts and Figures” section reveals). As a general rule of thumb you will see an increase in CTR by making your background and border colors the same as the background of your web page. So, for example, if the background of your pages is white, make the border white and the background white for your ads. If your background is green, make them green. The reason for this is that the ad block looks less like an advertisement if it blends with your site.

Two additions to the above which you may not already be aware of are: 1) The statistics show that using the “standard” blue link color works best, with one exception which is covered in the “Facts and Figures” section, and 2) You should make the color of the url to the advertiser a color that does not stand out on the page (that’s the small url that appears below the ad text—not the link url). Both of these steps make your ads look less like ads, thereby increasing the CTR.

Bottom line: Make the border and background colors of your ad blocks match the background color of the web page, make the link color the standard “blue”, and make the advertiser url a color that does not stand out.

11 strategies to promote a blog

1. It takes time - It may not be what you want to hear, but it unless you’re a genius, extremely lucky or have an amazing new idea, it takes time to build a readership. So settle in for the long
haul and muscle up some patience.

2. Content Content Content - I’ve said this over and over again so will keep it brief but unless you have ‘good’ content you’re unlike to build a readership. What is good content - start by thinking about it in terms of usefulness and uniqueness and I think you’ll be on the right track. Other words that come to mind when it comes to good content might be ‘fresh’, ‘variety’, ‘up to date’ and ‘well written’.

3. Link to others - Perhaps one of the central features of blogging is that they are linked. The intricate web of links and relationships was one of the first things that attracted me to blogging and it’s part of the reason it’s got real viral properties that allow ideas to spread so quickly. Participate in the linking to other blogs and you’ll find that many benefits come. For a start you’ll be participating in the conversation, you’ll be getting the attention of others and your readers will appreciate that you’re interested in helping them find the best content out there.

Of course you don’t want to be linking randomly to everyone and anyone - be selective and link to quality content that is relevant to your niche topic. As you engage in linking you’ll find that others will link back (assuming you have something worthwhile to say yourself) and you’ll find the traffic begins to flow - both from their sites and as a result of your increased search engine ranking.

4. Get Links from other Bloggers - I can hear the comments already - ‘Easier said than done Darren!’ This is true - but if you’re smart, genuine, helpful and polite there are ways of increasing the chances of getting links from others.

5. Participate in other people’s conversations - I suspect that a number of my first regular blog readers first came to my blog because I left a comment on theirs. It was not a strategy I thought about - I just found myself quite addicted to reading others blogs and giving feedback. When you leave a comment leave your own blog address. Often people like to know who is reading their blog and will come visiting you. Don’t comment just for the sake of it. If someone leaves me a ‘hi’ comment or is obviously spamming my blog I won’t visit them and delete the comment. Make genuine comments on posts that connect with you. You might make a good friend in the process and in the long run will find the flow on effect of this is more interest in you and your own blog.

6. Interact with Readers - When a reader reaches out to you with a comment, email or link from their blog - interact with them. For starters it’s good manners and secondly it’s a good way to increase the chances that they’ll come back again. I get a lot of people telling me that they don’t have enough readers to their blog - while I can related to this frustration I generally encourage them to see what they’ve got as a good starting place. Interact with those who do come to your blog and make it the best experience you can for them and you’ll find that they spread the word for you.

7. Update frequently - With the advent of news aggregators people can be notified of your new post in real time. I noticed that when I publish a new post that my stats nearly always go up slightly just afterwards as those readers with aggregators log in to have a quick look at my latest musings. This works a lot better on some blogs than others (some topics seem to attract more RSS subscribers than others do). Another side benefit of frequent posting is that search engines like it and many believe that the more you post the more often SE’s will send their spiders out to index your blog. Similarly - the more you post the more you’ll get indexed by blog engines like technorati (and numerous others). Of course I’m not encouraging massive amounts of meaningless content - keep it of a high quality.

8. Add a signature to your outgoing email - This is an oldie but a goodie. Many bloggers do this. Simply add the domain name to your outgoing email. Most email programs will allow you to do this automatically via a signature option. However be careful with automatic signatures if you don’t want your blog to be read by everyone that you email.

9. Promote your RSS Feed - Most blog platforms come with a RSS feeds built in but there are ways of increasing your subscriber list. The most obvious of these is to put it in the sight of your readers by putting your RSS button in a more prominent position. There are a variety of different buttons available that you can make available to readers to help them to subscribe to your blog via their news aggregators with one click that might also be worth investigating. Also, if your topic is not one which many readers seem to use RSS in, you might need to do some education on the topic of RSS feeds. Write a post on how to follow your blog via RSS and you
might find more do.

10. List your site on Portals, Blog Indexes, Directories and Search Engines - There are MANY places that you can list your blog to help it get more attention. In fact there are too many and you could probably spend all your time submitting your blog to them all. I’d recommend that you don’t become obsessed by this and work on other factors in this list first and then in your spare time add your blog to some of these types of things as you go. Making sure you get listed on some of the bigger sites like Technorati should probably be a priority (here’s how for Technorati) - but don’t make this the first thing you do. In terms of getting into search engines - you can submit yourself (most have ways of doing this) but most people believe that the best and quickest way to get indexed these days is to get a link from another site that is already indexed.

11. Search Engine Optimization - While some bloggers don’t think much of SEO I think it is well worth knowing some basic SEO principles and keeping them in the back of your mind as you blog. After all SE’s are the place that most people go to when they are searching for information on a topic. Don’t become obsessed by SEO, but don’t ignore it either.

Big Money! a big lie or true story?

Just do a short search on "Internet Millionaire" or "Adsense Money" and take a look at the results. There are many people claiming more than $1000 daily from Google Adsense, Kontera, Chitika and so on. Most of the Adsense beginners has a dream of even $5 a day!
Do you think those people are telling the truth? or it's just a big lie to attract more visitors to their websites and get more clicks ;-)
I still believe that most of the Adsense publishers are wasting time. Because they just start Adsense because they have seen those millionaire's websites. And they think that just running a website can lead to becoming rich. That is a big mistake!
A website is just like a company. Registering a company is so easy, but making money from your business is not as easy. It requires a good product or service. What are you presenting in your website?
  • If you are providing the visitors with a bunch of advertisement, you are loser. Because visitors are not visiting your website for ads but for your contents.
  • If you are working on a website which has original contents, you may be able to succeed. Good quality contents is the first step. The next step is how to design and put Adsense codes and contents together.

I encourage you to see my previous posts on Adsense design to get a better idea:

Now, start refining your web page designs and experience more money. Then share those experiences with us. Put some comments here then ;-)

Adsense Link Units, More Money?!

"Link units" or "Ad links" are one of the best profitable Adsense units you can ever use. They are small units and because of their size they can fit to any web page design. If you have a sidebar, you can put them at top or bottom of sidebar. If you want, put a horizontal link unit at the top of page.
I guess, people think about this lin units as menu items of the page and so click on them! Anyway, after clicking an Ad link, your visitor is provided with a list of related topics. When they click on these topics (or links) you will have a click.
Don't forget to use Google link units! And don't forget to assign a channel to them, to be able to analyze their clicks.

What can I do to ensure that my account won't be disabled?

Since some of my friends inform me about their Google Adsense account is disabled, let us review some terms and conditions and answers from Google Adsense Team:
Above all, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the AdSense program policies and ensure that all sites on which you display Google ads remain in full compliance with these policies.
Additionally, following these simple rules will help keep your account in good standing:
  • Don't click on your own Google ads.Clicking on Google ads on your own site for any reason is strictly prohibited. If you'd like more information about one of the advertisers appearing on your site, please type the URL of the ad directly into your browser's address bar, or use the AdSense preview tool.
  • Don't ask others to click on Google ads. Users should click on Google ads because they're interested in the services being advertised. Encouraging users to click on your Google ads, either directly or indirectly, can lead to inflated advertiser costs and can cause your account to be disabled.
  • Don't employ pop-up prompts or automatic software installations. Google is dedicated to improving the user experience on the Internet, and promoting responsible software principles is part of that effort. Sites showing Google ads may not prompt users to install software on their machines. Publishers must also not attempt to change users' browser home pages automatically or via pop-up prompts.
  • Be aware of how your site is promoted.Pages showing Google ads may never be loaded in an unrequested pop-up. This means publishers need to be very careful when purchasing traffic or setting up ad campaigns with third parties. Before contracting with any ad network, you should ensure that they will never display your site in pop-ups or as a result of the actions of any software application.
  • Don't place Google ads on sites that contain prohibited content.Google ads may not be displayed alongside any type of content prohibited by our program policies, including adult or mature content, gambling-related content, or drug content. It's your responsibility to ensure that all of your pages adhere to these policies.
  • Respect Google trademarks.Framing or mimicking Google pages is strictly prohibited by our Guidelines for Use of Google Brand Features. In addition, publishers may not use any Google Brand Features such as Google trademarks, logos, webpages or screen shots, without prior consent from Google.
  • Don't tamper with the AdSense code.AdSense offers a wide variety of approved formats, colors, and features in your AdSense account. Once you've generated your code, however, we ask that you do not alter any portion of the code or change the layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason, unless specifically authorized to do so by Google.
  • Provide a positive user experience.Sites that contain excessive pop-ups, use sneaky redirects to obtain traffic, or otherwise attempt to interfere with normal web navigation aren't permitted in the AdSense network. Please make sure your site doesn't deceive your users in any way. Also, every AdSense publisher is required to adhere to the Webmaster Guidelines on quality to ensure that their site
  • provides a positive user experience.
  • Provide a good environment for advertisers.Sites showing Google ads should not present a poor opportunity for advertisers. Sites that use tricks or deceptive practices in order to trigger inadvertent clicks on ads are prohibited.
  • Be responsive.Publishers are asked to be responsive to emails sent by the AdSense team. Be sure to keep your email address up-to-date, in case we ever need to contact you about your account. To update your email address, follow the instructions here.

We are constantly reviewing publishers for compliance with AdSense program policies and rules noted above. If you believe a site showing ads is in violation of these policies, please let us know.

Make Your Ads To Be Clicked!

Most of the beginners make a site (or already have a site) and when starting with Google Adsense, they just put Adsense codes into their pages. If you don't think about how do you decorate and place them, then you are wasting the time and losing potential money! Here goes some clues:
Ad Formats
How do you choose between Adsense formats? Skyscraper? Banner? Square? Rectangle? Do you consider borders? What about background color? If you let Google to pick the default settings for you, that is a Big Mistake! You have to choose the color settings and placement which best matches your page. But you don't have to check all possible combinations of colors and placements to find the most money making choice. Following are some guidelines:
Don't Look Like Ads!
Keep in mind that people don't come to your site for Ads, they come to read your contents. If you make the Ads eye-catching with bright colors and borders, your visitors can easily recognize them and so they IGNORE them!
If you put ads above or bottom of page so that they are away from contents, visitors ignore it. People are today, blind to Banners, hate Popup. Don't use them!
Text ads are probably the types of ad that you’re most familiar with. You get a box containing one or a number of ads with a linked headline, a brief description and a URL. You also get the “Ads by Google” notice that appears on all AdSense ads. If you're using AdSense, be judicious in the selection of fonts, font size, colors, images, tables and other visual aspects of your website.
Make The Border Go!
You can more than DOUBLE your click-through's with this one simple tweak! Even before the Internet, ads in newspapers and magazines were marked off with a thick, heavy border. No wonder borders and boxes have come to symbolize advertising messages. Ads with prominent borders make your pages look cluttered. They distract the eye from the ad text, while marking off the ad blocks from the rest of the content.

Start Adsense With a Weblog!

Blogger is an old free website that you could setup in a second but which lookes like a professional design that no one else can do. It’s professional, it looks great… and it takes just seconds to put together.

All you have to do is choose a name and title for your blog, take your pick of the good range of templates available and get writing. You don’t have to worry about coding or design work or images or anything else. If you change your mind about the way your blog looks, you can just pick a different template. All that’s left for you to do is write… and add AdSense. Even that’s been made easy for you.

Blogger.com lets you apply for AdSense directly from its site and it even gives you a preview of where your ad will appear (at the top of the page) and how it will look. While you’re waiting for your approval, you can play with fonts and colors so that you’re all set up and ready to start earning. Of course, once you’ve done that, there are all sorts of ways to play with the layout and content. You can easily move the ads into the sidebar by clicking the Template tab and looking for the line that says (I have replaced <> with { and } because of posting restrictions):

{!-- Begin #sidebar --}{div id="sidebar"}{div
id="sidebar2"}

Just paste the AdSense code directly beneath it. But that’s certainly not all; There are advanced strategies that you can use to maximize your AdSense earnings on your blog. You should certainly use them but more important is that you make a start. Just start in seconds ...

5 Reasons for an Adsense account to be disabled!

I have on older post entitled "Adsense Account Disabled", the following article is from Website Magazine :

It's easy to point our publisher/affiliate fingers at Google, or any PPC network for that matter and feel slighted when things don't work out like we've planned. You invested all that time and energy - and for what? Bupkus. I've received more than my share of emails the past few months from AdSense publishers and seen more than a few posts in industry forums from those feeling more than a little disgruntled about the relationship with their now ex-sugar daddy - the Web's biggest media network in Google. Some are even considering filing class action lawsuits. Listen, you got dumped (and probably for a very good reason) so deal with it. Google's just not that into you, er, your traffic. Here are five reasons why you've probably been banned from using Adsense, if you don't already know:

  1. You are clicking on the ads. If you are clicking on your own ads, you should have rotten tomatoes thrown at you. Look, if Google has a technology that can pick up ambient noise, they sure as sugar can tell that there are multiple clicks from the same IP address. They don't have enormous data centers to impress their stockholders. They have enormous data centers to collect loads of granular data about everything related to the click - who, when, where and probably more.
  2. You are asking someone else to click on the ads. I'm sure you're very popular, but so is Google. If you're silly enough to ask random people to click on the ads, you will be found out. I mean, I wouldn't report you but I know people who would. And they make loads of money and don't want you mucking it up just to earn a few dollars a day.
  3. You are in a network whose sole purpose is to click on ads. Yes, newbie advertiser, there are networks of scammer/spammers that work together to click on each other's ads at the thousands of domains under their control. But fear not, this publisher activity does not go unnoticed. It's true that it takes a little longer for Google and other networks to piece together the puzzle, but if advertisers voice their complaints about a specific source of traffic in a timely manner, action will be swift and fierce across the board.
  4. You are using an automated click fraud software. This goes back to traffic quality. You may very well have a very savvy media bot that can mask all sorts of things and rack up the clicks. If you do, send me an email - kidding. Google, I'm totally kidding. The thing about click fraud software (just like click fraud networks) is that it's simply a matter of time before they get caught. Sure, advertisers are going to pay more for clicks on average, but it's no different than the amount you pay as a result of shoplifting at a retail store. The cost is built in. Plus, if you don't like the traffic you are receiving, leave or lower your bids.
  5. You are presenting the ads in a way that misleads users. Some usability maven at some point in the last 18 months suggested that publishers should place images around the Adsense that is displayed on a site. The result is that it generates a higher click-through as you're calling more attention to it. Some take this to an extreme, the result of which misleads users into clicking on an ad that they really think is part of the content of a website. Google doesn't really care for this - it's against their terms and conditions if you read closely - and it can get you banned if you take it to the extreme.

It's true, complaints usually fall on deaf ears once you've been broken up with. But it's probably because you think you're smarter than the thousands of brilliant, wealthy programmers and can circumvent their hyper-advanced click fraud technology with a click-bot you purchased from some third-world programmer. Of course, none of the advertiser complaints about the poor-quality traffic your network delivers had anything to do with you being banned, dumped and kicked to the curb. The reason that Adsense is one of the most successful revenue generating programs on the Web is because it works - and not just for other big media properties and networks. It works for anyone that wants to monetize on user clicks at their own Web properties - as long as you follow the rules. If you don't, count on being banned.

Is Google Making Us Stupid?

Yesterday I came across an article by "Nicholas Carr" about how Google affects our life. I recommend you to take a look at this article: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google

Adsense Account Disabed!

The darkest webmaster fears is receiving a Google Adsense Warning, or even worse, a notice that Google Adsense account has been disabled. The notice starts out like this:

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on the ads on your web pages. We have therefore disabled your Google Adsense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers.

Some webmasters use Google Adsense to generate 100% of their website income and the account may hold many different websites. In that case, every website is disabled at one time. An automatic disqualification can be devastating, especially when Google has no obligation to explain its decision in detail. Not only does the account become disabled, but also existing click-through earnings are refunded back to the advertisers. Life gets tough, but is it that easy to get an account banned?
Yes it is.The terms of service every Google Adsense Webmaster accepts, describes the easy do's and don'ts.
  • Do Use the Adsense approved formats only
  • Do keep your click-through data and income private.
  • Don't display Adsense on registration or thank you pages.
  • Don't use Adsense code and a competitor's content-targeted advertisement on the same page.
  • Don't encourage anyone else to click on ads.

For a complete list, read the Adsense policies and terms:

The easiest method an account can be banned is by a Webmaster clicking on the site's own ads. Just how many click-throughs are needed to get a site banned isn't exposed, but Google Adsense watches for multiple clicks from the same domain. One person was banned who clicked twice from the same domain within a 24-hour period. That doesn't mean that is Adsense policy, because Adsense appears to place suspect sites on watch status until the action is duplicated. Spikes in click-through percentages are hefty red flags. Those are the changes worth becoming proactive over by emailing Google Adsense. A site that rises from a consistent 1% click-through rate to a 10% click-through rate on one day could become suspect. The actual percentage that creates the flag isn't made public for obvious reasons. What's the safest way to protect an account?

Don't click on the site's own ads ever. Deceptive practices work for a short time, but they always come back to hurt the originator.

Creating Website Content

There are all sorts of ways to do that but for the moment just bear in mind that the ads that appear on your site will depend on the content on your pages. That’s how AdSense works: users click on the ads because they’re relevant.

And that’s why it’s not worth putting up a site just to cash in on particular keywords. Google doesn’t like it and neither do users. If your site doesn’t genuinely interest your visitors, you’ll find it hard to get traffic, links and clicks on your ads. But there are still a lot of different ways to create content very easily that improves your income

It’s also worth remembering that Google doesn’t place ads on particular types of sites, so if you’re thinking of building a casino site stuffed with AdSense ads, you can forget about it; it’s not going to happen. Before you build a site that contains any content that’s remotely controversial, check out the AdSense Terms of Service (TOS) to make sure that it’s allowed. It will tell everything you need to know.

How to Start Your Own Website?

It used to be said that absolutely anyone could create a website: Absolutely anyone who knew HTML. Nowadays, you don't even need to know that. Programs like Microsoft Frontpage let you create sites without you needing to know tags from your tables. If you can use Word, you can make a website as well.

You may have fun and make the website by yourself or you can have a professional programmer/web designer to do that for you. Have a look at freelance sites like www.elance.com and www.guru.com for advertise. you can invite experts to give you qoutes and then you can pick the best price and services. Take care, a low bid is often low for a reason!

Common Adsense Mistakes (Don't s)

We all are thinking about making money with adsense, but should be aware of mistakes we may have during our implementations; Here goes some of the most important mistakes with Adsense design:
Mistake #1
Don't be an MFA site! MFA stands for "Made for AdSense". You don't want ANY search engine forced into judging whether or not yours is an MFA site! If Google or any other engine thinks your site's main purpose is to generate AdSense income without providing good content, you are toast; all your efforts will be wasted as your site is stuck on page 47, or worse, of the search engine results. Do not get me wrong. We are of course making sites for AdSense income. However, the search engines EXPECT quality content on those sites. Otherwise, they are considered MFA.

Here's what I suggest: Don't put AdSense ads on your page until itis getting at least some traffic from the search engines (be sureto have analytics installed to watch for search engine traffic orcheck your host's statistics). Fill your site with plenty oforiginal content for the search engines to see and index beforeputting the AdSense on. Some search engines are rumored to frown upon brand new sites with AdSense. You want to make a good first impression!

Mistake #2
The second big mistake beginners make is to fill every page withevery single ad and link unit Google allows. Don't make your pagelook like you are "begging" for someone to click. Believe it ornot, from all I have read and my own testing, less is more in thiscase. There are several reasons for this. However, in this shortpage I won't go into all the details. If you don't believe me, testit yourself. You will find that one or two, well placed ad groups, on a pagewill usually do better than three or four groups and units combined. By the way, failing to test is really a huge mistake which almost every beginner makes.

Mistake #3
This is more a failure than a mistake. Most beginners FAIL to consider traffic. Simply creating a site with AdSense Ads is not enough. How will the site get traffic? No traffic means no clicks! The secret to getting free traffic is: Knowing which niches to promote and which to stay away from.

The ability to pick and choose the correct keywords (this is a biggie) Knowing how to get pages ranking well in Google and Yahoo.

How to use Google Adwords? (part 1)

The first fact you need to know is that your keywords don't matter.Well, they don't matter anywhere near as much as something else... What counts is what you have to bid on that keyword to get what you might call your ideal position in the set of ads Google shows for that keyword.I don't care if you find a keyword with 12 words that gets 4,587 searches a day.If you have to bid fifty cents or a dollar on it to get it to show up in the top 10 ads, you'll probably lose money. Big money; while you are there to make money on the internet.
Back to that "long tail" example we hinted at before...You can find lots of long tail keywords that have much lower competition than something like "diet". And you definitely should search for those keywords. But what you need to find are keywords with THREE characteristics:
  1. They have lower competition
  2. They still get a healthy number of clicks for relatively low bids
  3. Those relatively low bids will let you start with your ad in the optimal position

We'll talk about that last one in the future. But you can see that most people focus on just one aspect of the long tail phenomenon--the lower competition part--and that ends up crushing them. They have a runaway campaign and they quit because they run out ofmoney. But Google doesn't care, because they already got your money.

They don't give refunds for runaway campaigns. That's why we spend so much time telling you the science behind picking Google's pockets. In the next posts, I'll tell you about the second dirty little Google secret. Actually, that one is one of most insidious ways Google lines their pockets at your expense.

Google Adsense vs. Computer Knowledge

You don’t have to be a geek to use Google Adsense. In fact, you don’t need any more technical knowledge than you do to surf the web. Google Adsense is very user-friendly ready to answer any question you might have. You are first walked through the sign-up process where you are prompted for any and all information needed. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the program policies, which of course you read before you signed up, and if you didn't now would be a good time to do so.

You are going to want to make sure that the site you are registering doesn’t have any of the rule-breaking problems or content listed. For instance, some profanity is allowed, but nothing excessive. Just use your head when designing and adding content to your site.Does Google Adsense Offer Direct Deposit?Google adsense offers various payment options for publishers. Electronic Funds Transfer (ETF) is offered in 16 countries whereby your payments are deposited directly into your bank account in your local currency.

Check Google Adsense support to see which countries participate in this option. You will need to sign up for this option after your application is approved by signing into your account. You then click the edit link adjacent to the payment header. After you fill out the bank information, Google Adsense will make a small test deposit into your account. This is for security purposes to assure the account is really your own. Watch your account for the test deposit to post, usually within just a few days. After you have received the deposit from Google, log back in to your account and in the Payment Details section, click Verify Account. You then will need to enter the amount of the test deposit. If you do not complete this step, your payments will be on hold.

Once you enter the test deposit amount correctly, your bank will be approved and selected as your form of payment. If you are looking to make some cash with Adsense and you want to do it without having to go through all the trial and error that those before you have gone through. Link, Link, Link ...

Another foundamental solution to rise your rank in search engines is to put your blog or website link in other websites. When search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. read a page and see your link, a positive point is counted for your site. Also let others put their link in your website via comments or other built-in features.

Web Traffic For Clicks?

I know you are aware of the need for traffic to your Adsense sites if they are to prosper, but is just getting traffic enough? Read my experience about this:
I have one AdSense site I created early on in my Adsense career which gets fair traffic now but makes little money. Google analytics tells me that about 80% of the visitors remained on the home page less than 10 seconds. Maybe they navigated to one of its other 10 odd pages? I checked those too; they weren't getting much traffic at all. Since I was not getting many clicks, visitors were OBVIOUSLY clicking the BACK button and not the ads as they left the page in 10 seconds.I admit the site is not one of my proudest creations, but 10 seconds...or less?Of course this answered the question for me as to why there were few AdSense clicks even though there was decent traffic. I WAS driving traffic to the site with Google, Yahoo, and MSN; Google analytics showed me that. (By the way, I HIGHLY suggest you put Google analytics on your sites... it doesn't cost a thing and provides you a wealth of information you simply NEED to know!).
Yes, I had done well with SEO in getting traffic, but I neglected the human element for the site. Far too many people (me too in this case) create a site with the search engines in mind and forget that search engines DO NOT CLICK THE ADSENSE ADS! If your site is not compelling enough for a visitor to spend morethan 10 seconds on, they sure enough are not going to be clicking the ads! Your goal, when it comes to traffic, has to be two fold:
  • First and foremost, you must drive traffic to the site. Notraffic - No clicks...pretty simple.
  • Secondly, the content must be attractive enough for visitors tohang out for a while. Somehow, someway, you must capture their attention.

You must draw them in...give them what they came looking for when they searched for and found your site! (read that again!)If you perk them up with content they find helpful, interesting, orjust plain cool, you'll have them wanting more. THAT is when theywill click your ads! Search engine friendly sites attract traffic. Human friendly niche sites deposit money into your AdSense account! With AdSense Connection I go into great detail about how to find those perfect niches (and keywords) to build your AdSense sitesaround.
